Stroller vs Pram: Which One Should You Buy?

Pram or stroller? Age, roads, car boot and weight decide it. Here is how to choose in five minutes.

Both carry your baby on wheels, but they are built for different stages and different roads. Prams are beds on wheels for the first months. Strollers are seats on wheels for babies who can sit up. Many families in Hyderabad end up buying one of each, or one 2-in-1 that converts. Here is how to decide without regret.

The short answer

  • Newborn to about 6 months: a pram, or a stroller whose backrest reclines fully flat. A newborn's back and neck need to lie flat.
  • 6 months to 3 years: a lightweight stroller. Your baby can sit, wants to look around, and you want something that folds in seconds.
  • Buying once for 0 to 3 years: a 2-in-1 pram-stroller with a flat recline, a reversible seat or handle, and a sturdy frame. It costs more and weighs more, but it is the only one you buy.
  • Travel and daily errands: a compact buggy that folds small enough for a car boot or an airline cabin.

Six things to check in the store

  1. Recline. For a newborn the seat must go fully flat (or close to it). For an older baby, a multi-position recline for naps is enough.
  2. Wheels. Front wheels that swivel 360° and lock make turns easy in a mall and steady on a bumpy lane. Bigger wheels cope better with Hyderabad footpaths.
  3. The fold. Fold it yourself, then lift it. If you cannot fold it one-handed with a baby on your hip, you will stop using it.
  4. Harness. A 5-point harness (both shoulders, both hips, between the legs) with a buckle a toddler cannot open.
  5. Canopy and airflow. In our heat, a large canopy with a mesh window matters more than cup holders. Check the seat fabric breathes.
  6. Handle height and basket. Tall parents want an adjustable or high handle. A deep basket means one less bag on your shoulder.
Store tip: bring the car. Our team will fold the stroller into your boot before you pay. If you drive a small hatchback, the compact buggies and 2-in-1 models with a flat fold are the ones to try first.

What we stock

In store you will find LuvLap and R for Rabbit buggies, pram-strollers for 0 to 3 years with reversible handles, and stroller-cum-rockers that double as a rocker at home. The lightweight buggies are the most popular with parents who mostly use the stroller in malls and on short walks; the bigger pram-strollers are for parents who walk daily or want one purchase for three years.

Questions parents ask us

Can a newborn use a stroller?
Only if the seat reclines fully flat or the stroller accepts a carrycot or infant car seat. Until about 4 to 6 months a baby cannot hold their head up, so an upright seat is not safe. A pram or a 2-in-1 pram-stroller is the right choice for the first months.
Which is better for Hyderabad roads?
For daily walks on lanes with kerbs and potholes, bigger wheels and a sturdier frame (a pram or a full-size pram-stroller) are more comfortable for the baby. For malls, parks and car trips, a lightweight buggy is easier to live with.
How long will a stroller last?
A good stroller is used until the child prefers to walk, usually around 3 years or 15 to 20 kg. Check the weight limit on the label before you buy.
Do you deliver strollers?
Yes. Order on WhatsApp and we deliver from the nearest store, free on orders above ₹999 in our delivery areas, or collect it from any of our stores. Our team unpacks and checks the fold with you.
